Evening Light

We took the top path around our part of the village tonight on a small family walk. Golden sunlight flooded the fields and  a cool breeze waved through the high grasses as we passed by.
Through dark tunnels of trees the light broke through and bathed us in blazing gold.
Already trees are thick with berries that will ripen very soon. Skeletons of hogweed are shedding their seed too, making stark silhouettes against the bright sky.
It was a beautiful evening to be out and about, enjoying the peace and quiet. If only everyone felt the same. While parts of our cities are ransacked and torched again tonight, I can hardly believe this is my country too.
Strange, unnerving and dangerous times. Held to ransom by bunches of kids for trainers and TVs.
What are things coming to?

We spent a lot of yesterday evening watching the news channels in disbelief as the dreadful events unfolded. Like you I can hardly belief our beautiful Country is being ransacked and ruined by these dreadful people. Thank you for this beautiful and peaceful post tonight. Good to see something lovely to take our minds away from the awfulness of the last few days. Fiona x

I can't bring myself to watch the news reports even though a town not far away is supposedly burning at this moment. I would far rather look at your beautiful images, thank you for posting them.

I think you live in paradise, I have discovered recently the beautiful landscapes you have thanks to my travels to blogland. But I do understand your consern about the violence situation because here in Argentina we live time to time with social caos ( we're still learning to live in armony ) . Only watching the glorious nature I can feel a bit of peace in moments like this.

Sitting here across the other side of the world watching the violence on TV, I am horrified by images of these opportunistic people.
Be a different story if the tables were turned and their homes and properties were ransacked and destroyed.
Hopefully, this will be bought to an end and peace restored ASAP..............

Your pics are like a soothing balm to the soul Steph, just beautiful...........

Feeling saddened by the state our country has been left in Steph. We've been having some very political discussions here about standard of greed coming from the top of society and ignoring the very real needs in our society. Eldest terrified that same might happen in our village. We laughed and said if Dot (aged pensioner on a moped) didn't get to the jumble sale she might get mad. In my head wondering if it might happen here in our city. Most of the lads and girls I teach are disaffected, with no sense that aggression is not a positive form, at 17 most have been in YO. Sadly I can see them joining in with mob mentality all too easily. Been trying to reassure daughter's before bedtime with laughter, but thinking of people who don't have that same luxury in the middle of it all. I'm dithering with my post about our lovely day and feeling self-indulgent to write it, but reading yours realise that's part of why we blog too. To say there is beauty, something great about this nation and the majority of people in it. Plus we need distraction from reality.

Anyways on to your news caught up with your hens when I got back - well done you, bet you're loving them. Sorry for my long rant on your lovely post Steph.

Such a beautiful post Steph with lovely photos of peace and tranquility. A balm to the souls of those who abhor mindless violence and opportunistic destruction.
I hope for your country that things settle quickly, that the level of discontent can be addressed and relative peacefulness be restored.
Take care,
Anne xx

i feel just like you today- i want to escape to nature and be where things are simple and peaceful...i am so horrified by what ive seen on bbc news 24- scarey that such young thugish children can make our country look like we're in the blitz of ww2...
Just so they can think its funny and loot for some tv screens and trainers- where are their parents ? how can a parent not know where their 11 yr old is at 11pm at night- its sadly disturbing!.
Its worrying also as a mother knowing my daughter is growing up in such a place where the police seem to have such little control over stopping them.

I think i will take my daughter on the ferry boat today across to cornwall and watch the waves roll in on the little pebble shore- And try to forget these issues for a few hours at least.

thanks for your sweet comments, i think i have funny feet, they seem to take a while to break into any shoe ;0) even the most softest of shoes x
enjoy your week steph x

I know hoe you feel. I spent the day minding a workshop for a friend at a gorgeous National Trust country property. When I watched the news last night I felt as though I was in a different country. The quiet of a Somerset village seems a million miles away from the mindless violence afflicting some of our great cities. I pray these idiots will come to their senses soon and be dealt with appropriately. M x

The images coming from England have been almost impossible to believe, yours are the images I want to represent England.
I think big cities suck the souls out of people and they're left with nothing but the need to "have".
So sad.

We too escaped to the country yesterday, Malham and surrounding area, Beautiful. The husbands mind kept drifting to the rioting we had seen, it was disturbing. It starts with discipline and respect, or a lack of it. As a child we had very little, re We've got nothing to do, as said by one of the disgruntled youths, but we wouldn't have dared or dreamt of such destruction. It's disgusting! This country needs to get back to such priorities, it made us Great! In the meantime, I'm quite happy to escape it! Good posting, nice to know people think the same.

Thank you for the lovely photos, reminding us that even though we have mindless yobs trying to spoil cities our country is intact beautiful.

Here in Wolverhampton thugs just used it as an excuse to loot and cause damage. I hope they all end up paying for the damage they have caused.

Being a huge anglophile longing to travel to the land of my forebears I have been so grieved by the images and the news of the disquiet and discontent there. Having friends in Manchester and Birmingham I sit before the news outlets in horror and deep concern... but your post is amazing.... such beauty and tranquility ! As someone above said... it is paradise.... how wonderful you can share this with your family and find such deep peace and serenity.... the merciful God in heaven absolutely can be found in such glory!

The first picture is so lovely and peaceful while the close-ups of the grasses have a more dramatic effect. Lovely evening walk in great landscape. Thanks for sharing. We need to see the “small” beautiful things in this crazy world.

I feel your peace and joy, Steff! However, this morning in church is the first that I've heard of the riots. I don't know much about your situation but I was in Los Angeles - choked with smoke - watching businesses just down the street from us going up in smoke - people grabbing their opportunity - it was terrible - I'm so sorry that it sounds like it's happening again! =(

I wish you even more of the peace that YOU spread so generously and graciously and sweetly to so many of us!

Love, Katy Noelle xo
