I love this part of the summer, the bit when you can feel yourself at the top of the downhill run into the season ahead. I'm always thinking about the autumn, even in March if I'm honest! July drives me to distraction with its disappointing weather and all the end of term madness, but when we tip into August things wind down to a slower pace and I can feel my favourite season around the corner.
But before its over there are lovely summery things I want to enjoy over the next few weeks and then I can let September pick me up in all it gorgeous, golden splendour, breathe out and get ready for cosying up.
In the meantime though I want to:
- Have birthday fun - both our boys are August babies so there are special treats planned for the safari park, cinema, a party at home, water park fun and we'll be eating plenty of cake.
- Collect our first eggs - our girls are settling in very nicely, hoping we won't have too long to wait for those first eggs.
- Camp by the river - if the weather holds we've made plans with friends to pack the tent and head into the hills for a couple of nights in a field by a White Peak river.
- Walk the fields - and find where the blackberries and crab apples are ripening
- Swim in the cold sea - for the last week of summer we'll be back in our favourite part of the world to eat pasties, cook fish on the beach, play in the waves and sing with The Fishermen.
- Visit the show- its Agricultural Show time again around these parts. Hoping to make it to The Manifold next weekend to see huge cattle, massive vegetables and eat ice cream by the bucketful.
What are you up to in August? Xxx

sounds like a fab summer....i soooo love cornwall. I'm spending a week on the yorkshire coast and loving every relaxing minute despite the rain! love ur onions!
Sounds lovely! The rest of our summer will include a trip to Eureka Children's Museum, picnics in the park, paddling pool/sand pit days at home, BBQs with family & friends and some more camping in the Lakes.
I read your recent post about your visit there during the airshow, we were there that weekend too, camping in nearby Ambleside (some pics on my flickr). We hired a boat to watch the airshow from to get away from the crowds, we could barely steer the buggy at the Glebe! Enjoy your summer ahead, it looks lovely in your neck of the woods xx
Sounds like you have August all planned out. Enjoy!!!
I'll be spending a week in Bournemouth with my brother and his family, so hopefully we'll have good weather for the beach. Then the following week we'll be spending the weekend with my mum, at least twenty of us (large family), should be fun!
Pretty bouquet and painting. Have a great weekend.
xx
awww steph, i feel the same about july- always lovely to get to august as it truly feels like a months break b4 school starts. I think its been a much better summer in the west country though- as we've had more good sunshine than heavy rain showers...I hope your hens lay for you...also enjoy the camping ;0)x lovely post as always x
Your August sounds fun. I'm an August baby too so it has always been my favourite month.
wow sounds like you will be having a great time and very busy too!
X x
I know what you mean about Autumn, I just love it. We tend to listen to Breton/French sea shanties here, Santiano (there's an English version too) is definitely on my desert island list!
Lovely post. I love Autumn and Winter but you can hear the year turning in August. We have been to our annual country show today, which was fab as always. Heading off for swimming in the sea tomorrow and lots of pottering around the allotment throughout the holidays - perfect. Enjoy the rest of the hols

They sound like a great bunch of plans for August..here it is the end of winter and most people are hard at work and just waiting for the cold of August to break out into Spring in September! Isn't it funny how different things can be according to the seasons and climate?
I am envious of your plans and feel guilty for not spending the first 2 weeks with my children... They are at nanny's while we gut and rebuild the bathroom...
I shall make an effort to pick them up and do a trip to the seaside or something...
Beautiful pictures as ever... Have a fabulous August and to be honest I can feel autumn in the air already down here... Xx
Love the little house in the first picture. I have a coupe of little dutch houses my step-father gave me. Where did you pick yours, as I would love to get more? Enjoy your August. Lx
Hi Steph just back from Cornwall, I blew a kiss from you! Have a brilliant time,
Sarah xXx
Autumn is just around the corner and I can't wait! Such a lovely post, it sounds like you've been enjoying yourself and have a lot to look forwards to! x
Like you I am looking out for signs of autumn and look forward to its arrival. In the meantime we're enjoying August. My hubbie is a teacher so we have him at home for 6 lovely weeks and as we've just moved house we're mainly pottering at home nesting in after spending the first week of the hols in our beloved Dorset. Enjoy your August. Fiona x
Your summer sounds wonderful. We only have one more week before schools start back. I am the same as you, my birthday falls in July and as soon as it has passed I am getting excited for cooler days and darker nights. I love autumn and winter best. x
I too dream of Autumn! Even in May! Have a fab time this summer hols :)
I am already plotting and planning for my favourite season too Steph. Can't wait though I am loving being on hliday. I always think of August as the start of autumn anyway as things are so early in Cornwall. Great to hear you'll be down again x
your end of summer list looks amazing...time to plan my summer list...winter is still here but the sun is rising earlier everyday..cant wait..
Sounds like a lovely summer. Gorgeous flowers in your jug. M x

Oh, Steff! You describe this time of year so well - even the sense of the coming 'cozying' season. That's why THIS is my favorite time of year. =] Today (8/14) it feels like fall - I've had to wear my sweater several times, this week. and, you're right - very quiet! Then, there are the crickets - oh, shiver, sigh, happy!!!
It was funny to read that you're two weeks into your summer break (although, you wrote that over a week ago) - we only have two weeks until school starts. SO! In the meantime, we are planning on sailing up on the BIG Lake Champlain, camping in the back twenty acres, toasting marshmallows and, we're finishing a 'secret' room in the attic for one of my sons. By the time autumn gets here, we will be in high cozy up gear!
I hope that your August is full of family joy!
Love, Me (again!=])
