I think its stopped...

Just for a day the air has been dry, my sandals have come out again and it even felt warm around tea time. I hear things are on the change and there was a mackerel sky for a little while which is making me very hopeful.
Today has been happy and very emotional - leavers church service at our primary school, in September B moves onto middle school in town. It feels right and he's definitely ready for the next stage but I'll really miss him being at our village school.

We have been so lucky to find such a caring, fun, happy place with kindness all around the children. All good things must come to an end I suppose and what's next will be great too, but I can't believe we're here already. Lots of happy tears today.
For the first time in absolutely ages I got to come home with them too and it was wonderful to chat with them straight out of school, potter around the house and get tea on the go. Woody has been amazing since I went back to work full time, taking on all the weekday cooking and afternoon school runs. His Shepherd's Pie and prawn curry are out of this world.
But today I chatted with the boys about this and that, snipped herbs, picked peas, unearthed potatoes, roasted tomatoes, collected eggs and just sort of wallowed in some simple pleasures I haven't been able to enjoy for ages.
Life is full of fun busy-ness at the moment but just to take our time today was bliss.

That sounds just lovely Steph. I am counting down the days to the end of term and I will have six whole weeks to potter. I feel blessed to have the school holidays.
There is something special about those leaver services; the feeling of being on the brink of the next stage. Of flight and hope and the future"

Leavers services always give me a lump in my throat, even when I have no one leaving. But as you say the next step is exciting too, I've just had 1 leave school for good and that is very strange!

What a lovely post and sweet pictures. I remeber those days, but instead of village schools we had elementary schools. Then off to the strawberry fields to make some $'s for school clothes in the fall. They all grow up so fast, and when they actually leave it can be tough on the tear ducts! Hope you all have a wonderful break, from Bow, Washington State, usa

Hi Steph, love to read your blog - is there any chance you could give us the recipes for Woody's Shepherd's Pie and Prawn Curry?

hello steph, its turned very stormy again here. I think my daughter is looking very tired, think this last week is dragging and the weathers has got worse...i actually prefer autumnal days with spells of sunshine, but non-stop grey, heavy cloud gets me down...july?!.
Though, one must not grumble too much, some places have had serious flooding and thats dreadful.
there's something to be said about living on a hill ;0).
Bless your little one and big school on the horizon...I cant believe my daughters nearly complete on her 1st school year!.
They grow too quickly- its so important to cherish these years! ;0)xx

I know how you feel, it's such a big step secondary school. My eldest goes up this year, she has been in a lovely safe environment, I'm a wreck this week. Prom ( disco really but they like prom better!) tomorrow then leavers assembly on Friday. I have a very big box of tissues ready! Ada :)

Blissful memories are the ones such as these - your day reminds me of ones I had with my two daughters when they were little and of my own childhood which just seemed like endless summer days following my dad up and down his garden tending vegetables, fruit and flowers and then helping mum make chutneys and pies in her kitchen. We spent a lot of the girls summer holidays baking and making together and building dens with the clothes horse and old sheets. Now I am stuck at work and so are they!! I envy you those happy summer holidays to come.

Dear Steph, I really love to read your blog. Its is so full of lovely posts and pictures. And I usually really know what you are talking about. My daughter is now 7 years old and is going to be in the second class of primary school after summer holiday. It is so amazing what she all has learnt in her first school year. My son will have his first school year next year. They grow so so quickly. Time is running... Hugs Nicole

No rain, you lucky thing. It's been beyond raining here for days. It's actually starting to take my sense of humour with it today.

Wonderful that you could do the home time thing with your boys. That's the bit about working that is hard to swallow isn't it so lovely when you can have a bit of the simple things.

We have leavers service at church for Rosey who's off to high school this year on Friday. Even though we're all ready for her to go on to next things as she outgrew primary a while back, bet I'll well up as I cry at most things like that. I have a sniffle each year when they do their leavers speech even though they're not my kids.

It sounds like the best kind of end to the school term - happy tears - and the best kind of end to the day, just pottering about with the kids and getting supper.

I'm craving roast tomatoes now!

Such a sweet day. I remember doing simple, seemingly inconsequential things with my son, but oh how important they are to both of us now.

I'm with Sue, could we pa-lease have Woody's recipes. Shepherd's Pie is one of my all time fav dishes. I've read Coleman's has a shepherd pie mix but I can't find it here.

Steph, you do life very well, indeed, indeed.

Thanks for always sharing.
