Beautiful Day

The day of my dreams today. Snow on snow, schools closed, everyone sent home from the office and nothing to do but gaze and be spellbound.
Later we ventured out. Out into the swirling flakes and biting wind because who knows when a day like this will come again and boys must sledge and throw snowballs. No snowmen here though (sorry Frances!), too cold, the snow too dry and powdery.
It was magical and I just wanted to drink it all in and relish every icy gust. Not a day of stillness and crispness but much more exciting, a leaden sky, heavy with the promise of more snow.
It's a pain undoubtedly and causes no end of trouble but we were as ready as we could be this time and had a stocked up fridge, fuel and made alternative plans and I have revelled in it. Proper winter, as it should be, how I remember them.

We said hello to the pigs in the wood while they guzzled away their nuts, climbed to the very top of the hill then hurtled down. Oh it was brilliant. Exhilarating. My very best childhood memories revisited in the whoosh of a sledge and our little chaps whooping and spinning around.
It's a long walk back up our hill but very worth it for such a magical time. I love winter xxx

beautiful.
I was crossing my fingers for a day like this too but sadly we only have a very light covering here in Sheffield.
Maybe tomorrow we will get our share then hopefully we can get out our sledges.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos, it looks like you had a magical day. Snow is just a dream in Australia, a small time frame of about two months in winter in the high country and very expensive to visit. Enjoy your snow!

Sounds wonderful! I'm enjoying it vicariously through your pictures without even stepping out in the cold.

The snow does make everything look beautiful, particularly when looking at it through the window. Not my favourite time of year to be out and about. And I live in Canada, so we usually get lots of snow here!

Snow is magic and so beautiful! I forget every year just how much it really is! Fun! =]

(My mission, these days, is trying to photograph a single snowflake - I'm learning and getting closer. So, I've been waiting anxiously for some fresh stuff, again, soon! =])

A winter wonderland with your lovely boys!- perfect! i remember as a child how excited all the children would be when the schools closed! and even better when you get a day off work!
I have enjoyed your photographs!...
can you believe how disapointed my little one is that the snow has missed us only by a few miles!!!! boo!...id even brought some carrots fresh in! hehe...oh dear!
when watching the weather forecast with a very close eye the last few days (id got a weee bit obsessive!)
in hope it would reach us...The snow had just past my coast line towards somerset ~ so i had an inkling it was going to miss us! but i lived in hope that night that the weather forecasters might not always be right hehe...but they were this time it missed us, but friends in near by villages had got about a foot of it, think it likes more inland places!...but we were left with a lot of sleety rain on friday and ive never known it to be soooo cold in devon!!!!
This is how Winters should be Snow in Winter months and a heat wave in summer months!...lets hope im still in for some snow!...my fingers and toes are crossed! ;0)x

It looks so beautiful,we got quite a bit of snow yesterday but this morning it's very sleety .. we had wanted to go sledging too .

Beautiful! We are lucky to have just enough here too for my girls to go sledging. I think they have plans for a whole snow family building session today. Meanwhile our poor hens are standing around one-legged trying to avoid the snow on their feet too much.

lovely photos :)

I had a snow day yesterday but my poor Dave didn't get a day off, he didn't even get sent home early (from Newcastle) and although he finished at 2:30, it took him longer to get home because of people who don't know how to drive in snow so we didn't have time before dark to go out and play!

We'll probably go sledging today!
Hope you have a great weekend :)

Thank you for letting me enjoy your snowy days. I've never seen snow and I love the magic your enjoyment of it conjours. So many people complain about it but I know others like me would love to spend at least one day like you have just shown us.

Oh, these photos really show what a glorious time you all have had, even if the snow texture was wrong for snowmen!

Your children are going to remember these days and taken them all wrapped up into their own grown up winters.

It's grand that you all were all prepared with the practical stuff, so you could wander about in wonderland.

Thank you so much for these photos. xo

What lovely winter pics. I have been out with my camera to. Not been sledging just taking the dogs for walks. I think they enjoy it. Well the little one does, she loves running around in it.

I love it too, lazy days unable to get to work and school closed - a full freezer & plenty of coal for the fire. There's more forecast too!

Gorgeous photos - we also got a fair amount in Staffordshire ( take a peek if you want!) and as schools were closed we all had that wonderful feeling of having been granted a little bit of extra time to just 'enjoy'. Getting a bit grotty now with the ice but the memories are truly magical x

I'm insanely jealous of all your snow (barely a whisper down here in the far south west!). Makes everything magical - glad you're loving it!

stunning photographs - particularly the first one of the trees. The snow has all melted here which is a shame - just cold and slushy, with more sleet on the way.
