Dresses From the Sea

There's been much discussion about clothes on some of my favourite blogs lately (Little Green Shed, Little Birdie) well more about how hard it is to find what you'd really like to wear when you're a mum, who perhaps works, is busy, who has a life, and still wants to look okish...

We were going to a party recently - first one in ages - and I got in a complete tizz about what to wear on a Friday night out in a city. I can't tell you how stressed I was. Traumatised.

I spent a joyless and fruitless couple of hours in the city centre trailing in and out of shops getting so totally dispirited. I couldn't even find earrings I liked!

So now I have totally forsaken the high street. These three dresses are my favourite buys from the past few months and, apart from some £6 jeans in a sale in town and some lovely birthday and Christmas gifts, I've bought nothing else since the autumn.
They're all from Seasalt in Cornwall who for me hit just the right mix of style, quality and value (no more expensive than M&S). The dress below I've worn endlessly and had such lovely comments. Their Artists and Potters range is extremely beautiful and I have a huge wish list of Breton tops, wide legged trousers and striped socks filed away!

Last year I bought my summer sandals from them and they were the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. My Sesalt winter mac has kept me warm and snug throughout this viscious winter of ours.

I love the cut and drape of Seasalt clothes and, at the risk of sounding like an advert which this post absolutely is not, finding somewhere you know the clothes will suit you is complete nirvana.
So I've learnt my lesson and along with a couple of other favourites I live too far away from (Fat Face and occasionally White Stuff), I shall carry on shopping by the sea.xxx

I can't see your blog properly anymore - have to click on it as I know is the format but then scroll down an awful lot to get it all read. Pretty awkward viewing it.

thanks for the recommendation....will give them a go. i loath shopping nowadays and sometimes sadly will not bother if an occasion requires dressy up and/or something new..

Sorry it's difficult for you Anonymous - sorry but you didn't leave your name.

I can't work out why it is tricky. Have viewed myself on lots on phones/ tablets/ pcs and it all looks the same to me...puzzling? Hope it improves for you.

Yes, I agree, I love clothes, but can rarely find what I am looking for. I have worn out one Seasalt dress and have just purchased a replacement, now waiting for warmer weather to wear it. Also love the artists and potters range.

From over here in the States, Seasalt is a new brand to me, but I can clearly understand why you'd be a fan. I love their sense of style and would definitely be a customer if I were on the other side of the pond.

Happy Easter!

From over here in the States, Seasalt is a new brand to my eye, but I completely understand why you are a fan. They've got a great sense of style and the clothes seem very easy to wear. Great fabrics, too.

Best wishes to you for a Happy Easter.

Hi Steph,
I loathe clothes shopping, LOATHE it, so I can totally understand the trauma of finding a party outfit...that would be way out of my comfort zone too! I haven't tried Seasalt although I get sent their catalogue and am in love with their little cardis. The first dress of yours looks lovely, really pretty.
These days I'll only buy stuff I can try on at home, I got lost with fashion when I turned 40, everything seemed too young or too frumpy. And as for sizes..pah! Recently I ordered about 25 pairs of jeans from Very and didn't fit in any, all too small and the next size up too big!! grrrrrr! I'm now a White Stuff convert, I have just one dress from there that is only a t-shirty type one but I love it, I wear it with boots tights and layers when its cold and cropped leggings and wedges with a little cardi when its warmer. (I dont 'do' bare legs!) I just need them to make some more in a different pattern now! xx
sorry that was a bit of an epic message there!

Hi Heather, thanks for your lovely comment. My green cardi is a really old one from Peacocks, it was a bargain so I bought a red one too! Not made of anything fancy but its warm and I love the colour.

Thanks again
Stephx

I love the idea of dresses designed by the sea! And your choices are very pretty and colorful. Makes me wish I was on your side of the world so I could just pop in and see what they have on offer. You are so right about finding a clothing nirvana, and I've yet to do that - sigh! But you give me hope.

PS to my previous comment - I just went looking for Seasalt online and found their website - and now I am craving that Bonfire Carn Skirt, and the Seaside Mac, and the Tudor Tee!! It is fun window shopping like this . . .

I'll have to have a look. I must admit my only High Street purchases are usually made in the Monsoon sale!

You've always seemed to hit the nail on the head with your own style every time I've looked on here Steph. Love the bottom dress. Slash necks suit me, whereas plunging necks just look odd. Like you I get all panicked now when I have to leave the safety of my jeans behind. I wear them for work, home and general going out so anything smarter and I haven't a clue anymore. X

I've glanced at Seasalt a few times in John Lewis but I'm going to give their clothes a closer look now , on your recommendation! Perhaps they should send you a free outfit for drumming up business!
