Instagram Autumn

As the light leaves us earlier everyday now I've been looking back through my Instagram feed at my favourite autumnal moments:

:: I love the blazing beeches along the lane I take from town to home. Full of jays, pheasants scuttling in the undergrowth and acrobatic squirrels, it's a breathtaking place that's very precious to me.

:: potting up tulips and narcissi for a spring show. There's a lovely atmosphere in the garden late in the year; the scent of damp compost, leaf litter and woodsmoke takes me back to busy garden days with my parents when I was little.

:: I've had some lovely autumnal runs this season. The canal side was especially beautiful in our mild October.

:: my last #weekendposy of the year. Every weekend I've gathered a few blooms from the garden and gathered them together on Instagram with this hashtag. I'll be starting again in the spring and it would be great if you'd like to join in!

:: fun in the woods. We joined the lovely Nina and her smashing family  (www.ninanixon.blogspot.co.uk) for a haunting afternoon of spookiness, scavenging, potion making and campfire fun. It was a fantastic, gloriously muddy afternoon - thanks so much!

And now winter is creeping in and I'm enjoying every moment. The air turns colder, sparkle and twinkle lights the night sky and we're making preparations for celebrations to come. Thank you autumn for another glorious season, see you next year.

Autumn perfectly captured Steph, it's got to be my favourite season next to Spring. I love your avenue of towering beech trees, our trees in Cornwall tend to be short and twisted by the wind rather than tall and stately.

We had our first frost yesterday, it was beautiful and quite a shock after lots of mild weather. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for snow down here, I know you often get a lot but we're lucky to see any and I'd love to go tobogganing! Have a great week, Antonia x

What wonderful photos Steph! I have to say that when Curlew Country pops up on my blogroll it always brings a smile to my face - I know I'm in for an absolute treat. I used to visit Stone a lot and know how beautiful it is around your way. Miss it.

Autumn tend to be glorious here. The last hurrah of summer. Then suddenly everything is bare and pared back. And the colours change from turquoise brights to earthy hues.
I miss trees. Yours are beautiful.

Lovely photos. I especially like the houseboats on the canal. Seems like such a peaceful way to live. Do you suppose they're able to live on them year round?

Curlew Country said...

Thanks Susan x yes quite a few people live on the barges and narrow boats all year. Some move into marinas where there are facilities but along the canals there are lots of mooring points with power hook ups so its really possible.

Most have wood burning stoves so they're very cosy, even when the canal freezes over. These boats aren't that far from the village centre where we have a shop, post office, pharmacy etc so although they are a bit more detached from regular life they're not isolated. Quite appealing really! Happy thanksgiving btw x

Autumn has been so kind to us...and November too. I am hoping December will be just as kind, though the girls are hoping for a little snow. It's why we moved 'up North!'
