Anyone who reads my blog will know that I do my best to shop as little in supermarkets as I can. Most of what fills our fridge, veg cupboard and fruit bowl comes from the amazing market in town that we're really lucky to have on the doorstep.
I love my weekly chats with the chaps at the greengrocers, who throw in the
occasional freebie or offer tastings of seasonal fruits fresh off the stall. The butcher is a wonder, offering cooking tips and suggestions for
recipes. I can get pretty much anything we need from polish to
bird food and everything
in between and just have to pop into the huge tin shed by the petrol station for tins, packets and the odd treat.
But the one thing I can't seem to strike lucky with are clothes and shoes, especially for the boys, and that's where the big orange supermarket
close to work comes in very handy. The charity shops have some great finds but its a bit hit and miss so if I really need something I head there.
And look what I found!
Aren't these the most fantastic wellies! Now I confess to getting a bit seasick over some of the really gaudy festival wellies around (those skull ones really aren't my thing). Mum bought me a floral pair a couple of years ago but now they're leaking so a replacement needed to be found and spots were on my mind.
The search has been high low and numerous pairs rejected for being too expensive, too flashy, too childish, too grim etc, etc and then I chanced on these delicious pair. Milk chocolate brown with
eau de nil spots (oh go on light turquoise!). Perfect. Spots make so very happy. They're nice and high too, just the thing for dam building and stream jumping with the boys. I am in love with them and find myself just popping into the hall to have a sneaky look at them.
Oh what joy, spots before the eyes and just waiting for a few puddles to splash in.
Fanwellytastic.
P.S Thanks for the lovely get well wishes, they've cheered me up so much. I'm feeling lots better and went to see a lovely osteopath tonight who's getting me up and about again. You're all so kind and I really appreciate your thoughts. Much love Sx

Hello Steph. Glad to hear your back is on the mend.
Those wellies are just gorgeous and I have the deepest envy, partly because my own are 15 years old and leaking, but mainly because they are dotty. I am craving all thinsg dotty at the moment.
I popped some thoughts on your last blog comments about Lostwithiel. Feel free to email me if I can help more. Lovely area xx

Osteopaths have magic hands so you'll soon be puddle jumping!
Happy new year Steph,
So sorry to hear about your back and I'm so glad you're feeling alot better now.
Backs can indeed be tricky things, my Ben gets very sore some mornings and has to take pills for it, back there isn't much they can do really. It will just sort it's self out he was told. LOL and dragging in the huge Christmas tree didn't help.
Loving the wellies they are fab.
Hope you're vegs all come good when you plant them, it must be wonderful to have the room to do that. We just have a few pots and put in carrots, baby onions and strawberries. Maybe this year we're do corjets (is that how you spell it? lol)
Have a lovely weekend honey.
Hugs,
Catherine x

Fab wellies Steph! I love polka dots.
All our local shops are closing, we have a small retail park nearby and it really is killing the town, the greengrocers who had the great name of 'Peas and Cues', the butchers, a very handy hardware store and several charity shops have closed recently, let alone good old Woolies which is such a shame, (only to be replaced by hairdressers or restaurants)
I wish more places were like your town, it seems out of town or the supermarket are the places to shop for everything nowadays, shame really isn't it.
Enjoy the puddles..I hear the rain is on its way!
Hi Steph
I like your polka dots wellis!!
The colours absolutley fantastic.
I wish you all the best for 2009!
Hugs,Regina
Hello - loving your Wellies and Cath Kidston Bag! (I caved a couple of weeks ago and bought that same bag after months of looking at it in the CC catalogue!)
Love your blog! Samx
The wellies are very nice. Mine are plain old farm wellies. I remember my Father in law laughing because we were nearly a year at our farm before I bought them. Well i had been pregnant and you can't go near pregnant ewes when you are expecting, that was my excuse anyway. 6 years later and I'm still on the same pair, not good really is it?
Glad your back is on the mend, I'm a fellow suffrere - it's horrid isn't it - bleurgh!
They are fab wellies, I want some wellies for my birthday in a couple of weeks and like you have searched high and low for a pair, that are just right.
