The sun shone, it was warm, friends and neighbours came out to celebrate and we had a day to remember at the street party my sister and her neighbours organised.
Everyone made such an effort to join in, contribute and get to know each other. No matter where you stand on the monarchy there's no doubt that today came about because of the wedding and never would have happened without it.
After watching the service at home (magnificent, moving and sweet all at the same time), we headed over the hills with cake and spare chairs for an afternoon in the sunshine.
Can't believe how beautiful the weather was. It's been known to snow in June here and when we lived in the town too we rarely saw the sun. Everything it seemed came together for everyone today.
A day of special memories, family & friends and a good old fashioned British party. Brilliant.
What a super day, so much happiness. Love the chalking Fairtales do Come True... Wonderful. Jude x
What a terrific way to celebrate the day. Your photos really portray a wonderful sense of community. It will be a lovely memory to have.
Over the sea I got up at 4:00 AM to watch the wedding. It was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. I loved seeing how you celebrated. Congratulations to Kate and Will and to your country!
What a beautiful party you had! Here in western Canada, I started watching TV wedding coverage of the Royal Wedding at 1 a.m. local time ... no sleep last night, but I got to watch the whole thing live. Such fun. I'll sleep tonight!!
Fabulous photo of the two of you there. Looks like you've had a fabulous day. ,Like you say the coming together of a community is a great thing.
What a fun day...I envy your sunshiny day :-)
What a lovely day it was. Just so beautiful. Looks like your street party was wonderful. Stayed up till midnight here and watched till the end!
What a lovely celebration - a day when the whole world longed to believe in happy endings - or, better yet, new beginnings! I found myself wishing all day that my relatives, all those generations ago, had never decided to leave and move to the New World!! I took off all day and was with you all in spirit!
On the west coast of Canada, we watched the coverage from 11:00 at night until 5:30 in the morning. Absolutely wonderful!
Here in Perth Western Australia the wedding was beautifully timed over dinner on a Friday night. We enjoyed it very much. I got out my "Royal Albert" tea set and made Earl Grey tea to celebrate afterwards!
Oh, your sunny street party looks like it was such fun!
Here in New York, I woke up in time to see Kate begin her walk down that very long aisle, with her handsome dad alongside to give her support. It was a truly beautiful image.
I do wishe those young married folks well, and wish that I had not had to rush off to work. I'd have loved to have seen more of the celebrations as they unfolded.
HI Steph, It was simply a glorious day! The wedding was a true fairy tale with a gorgeous bride, a handsome prince, & lots of love in the air!....Your village looks like out of a fairy-tale as well!....No one does it like you Brits!....Enjoy your weekend!...Your friend, Heidi XO
Wow your day looked fun
Steph that looks fabulous and your words about 'where you stand' completely summed it up for me. - Lots of jolly good old fashioned fun was had here too.
Have a wonderful weekend,
So glad you had a great day - we did too we celebrated with afternoon tea. Your street party looked fabulous.
That looks like a perfect street party! The Wedding was fab - I wanted to be cynical, but got drawn in! Abby x
That's what it's all about, everyone getting together and having fun! I think we should have a national street party day every year...catio
Your street looks amazing. So glad the rain stayed away. It was such a lovely day in London. I didn't attend a street party, but my daughter and I spend most of the day curled up on the sofa, watching the wedding, which was really amazing, drinking Earl Grey tea and tucking into little sanwiches.
Great photos Steph and I love the one of you and hubby! I am glad you had a good time - weren't we lucky with the weather? We also had a party on our village green - BBQs and picnics and bunting and lots of very happy kids running around - bliss. I loved seeing the people who had dressed up in hats or red, white and blue outfits. Your street decor looked amazing (as did the jammy scones!).
Enjoy the rest of the long weekend.
wow.. waht a beautiful picture.. i hope i can join you there . LOL
Looks like a brilliant day, Steph! Did you go to the '40s weekend at the Churnet Valley Railway? Any photos pur-lease?
What beautiful pictures, it looks like fun was had by all. It was a great day with a real sense of community spirt, which as you say would never have happened otherwise.
It has gone down as a memory to cherish.
I think that people are having such a harsh time that they need fairytales! This wedding gave people so much joy (I know lots of people even here in Greece who were moved!!!), regardless of their political beliefs.Maybe it has to do with the couple, who seems humble and in love, I don't know...
Judjing from the wonderful street party you went, it was a good opportunity to get together with people. How important is that?
PS. Could I use your photos, in my school blog, for the wedding posting I'm posting next week? I could really show my pupils a bit of the atmosphere surrounding the event in your country. (Not the one with your sweer husband and your great outfit, of course!)
The whole event was just wonderful! The street party looks great fun!
Lovely picture of you both!
How fabulous, looks like great fun :) xxxx
We never made it to a street party but we did have a special Afternoon Tea with a proper homemade trifle and glasses of Bucks Fizz. My cynical Scottish partner even got drawn in and watched the whole thing with tears in his eyes. I even caught my 19 year old son watching it in his room too. We're all still talking about it today. I'm so glad so many people had a great time.
Love and stuff xx
OOOOH what a LOVELY street party! I wish we could have that! Now, what stupid reason would my neighbors buy for having a street party... mayby just have a garden party with friends instead, my neighbors are a tad too rich for my taste....
Wow! your photos of the party are beautiful -- just the kind of thing I can only dream of attending. Watched the wedding twice yesterday, with two different groups for a total of 6 hours!! couldn't be more impressed with Kate and her dress and her poise, nor more excited for them both!
That's decided then. I am moving in!! This looks like you had an awesome time! :)
I want to live there! The street looks amazing and exactly how I imagine a street party to look. I am incredibly jealous.
Oh, that looks brilliant - so glad you could take part! No street party in our street, but we had flags and bunting and champagne in our own front room, and enjoyed every minute of an unforgettable day.
What a great day! Certainly one to remember! Cx
Knew we could rely on you for a lovely post about the royal wedding, and this really is wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. No street parties here in our bit of Scotland - no streets, actually, as we are in the middle of nowhere -but yours looks absolutely perfect!
It's fantastic... a dream for me... Ciao dear... Deborah (by Rome)
What a dearm day it was!Fab pics of a wonderful, momentous occasion. My favourite though has to be the little dog wearing the Union Jack! :0)
..that should read 'dream' day, sorry, typing this late at night! :0)
Lovely photos of a very special day. Thanks for sharing them with us.
looks like everyone enjoyed them-selves and what a gorgeous street
Hi. I love your photos and have a random question to ask. Where did the teatowel come from? I have been trying to find one that I liked for me and a friend in the USA and can't find one. That is exactly what I wanted! If you could let me know I would really appreciate it. Joolz.
Here in Mississippi i got up at 3 am to watch. It was SO super exciting!! I cried quite a bit. once i got to work i mentioned to some that i had got up to watch and there were a few who said "what for?? who cares?? i don't care enough to get up that early". my response was always the same. The whole world is going to hell in a hand basket, THIS was something good! They are truly truly in love, it is so obvious. If i'd had the funds, i'd have flown over just to be there. This is the best thing that's happened to the Royals in a very long time. So so happy for the UK!
Hola Curlew,me encanta tu blog te sigo todos los días,un saludo.
What a lovely post and what a fab party (with yummy food)!! We watched it at home in London and had a great time (I was watching it and crocheting so that was bliss).
I follow love your blog but not always write on it. x Pati
Oh wow, it looks fab and your pictures have really captured the mood!
We went to a party for children at a local pub - bouncy castles, face painting, children's party food, balloon release etc. It was fab.
Wonderful post . . . I loved it!!
Thanks Helen xx
wow ,looks like you had a fabulous time, yet again I was so envious that I didn't live in England !
Hello, Just stumbled across your blog. Wow, your street celebrated in style! It was fantastic seeing William and Kate get married - wonderful x
It looks so divine. I have total Royal wedding celebration envy...It was night time here and we ate cupcakes with vanilla butter icing and cachous and drank gorgeous french champagne while in formal attire in my sitting room. It was a very funny and royal .
What absolutely lovely, happy, jolly, cheery pictures. It's clear that it wasn't just you having a fantastic time. Your new uber-large pics work a treat too. Glad you liked the idea of Tyneham; we will be spending some of our summer down there again so do get in touch if there's a possibility of meeting up for tea!
What a fabulous ,traditional street party,wish I lived there!:)xx
Great photos! Feels like being there.
wow that looks amazing, wish i was there. love the pics below as well of the 1940's event.
I feel very jealous! Lovely photographs - I watched it at home with my sister and a friend, but everyone else seemed to be making heavy weather of their plans to avoid the whole thing, so no street parties in our neighbourhood. A bit of a shame. Especially as later, almost everyone confessed to having watched it after all and been completely won over by it.
That huge array of scones and the conga are my favourite images. It's a while since I've done a conga!
It looks as though you all had a truly fabulous day Steph. This is a wonderful record of a great day. In our village we had a garden party - it really was a day when everybody got together and had a joyful time.
Looks fabulous, love the doggy in the Union Jack :)
Oh what a wonderful day you had with lots of great things to enjoy, well done to you all!
I know it was a while ago now, but reading this has brought it all back..so much so that it inspired me to buy that tea towel from ebay! Better late than never! lol. Thank you x
